Workforce

Let's get to work.

Our vibrant economy is rooted in the diverse businesses that make up the fabric of our community. Norfolk is continually growing and we are working alongside a multitude of partners to ensure our employers have qualified talent that can take them to the next level in our global economy. Our workforce initiative is comprised of four pillars which are designed to strengthen the characteristics needed to promote a strong economy.

Talent Attraction

We have engaged with the Norfolk Area Visitors Bureau and the Norfolk Area Chamber of Commerce to build a community marketing strategy called Norfolk Now. We work alongside our partners to facilitate an interactive website at www.NorfolkNow.org, publish a bi-annual magazine, and execute an extensive social media marketing strategy in order to promote all that is unique to the Norfolk area. We seek to share the success stories of the people and businesses that make the Norfolk area a wonderful place to live.

Pipeline Development

Have you heard about the amazing things happening in our local high schools? Norfolk area schools provide students with a variety of course offerings to prepare them for their post high school career.  These courses range from career academies, and industry certifications for immediate employment, to rigorous AP and dual credit courses to provide students college experience for a post high school education.

Neighboring communities like Battle Creek Public Schools engage their high school seniors in work-based learning experiences with area businesses.

The Friday's at Northeast program at Northeast Community College allows high school seniors to spend one day a week on campus as college students. Classes offered through the program introduce students to a variety of career and technical education program areas and allow students to earn college credit while still in high school.

Workforce Development

We are working alongside Wayne State College and Northeast Community College through the Northeast Nebraska Growing Together initiative to increase the number of Norfolk area graduates in high demand career programs.

Trade skill training opportunities, provided by Northeast Community College, provide opportunities to receive career readiness skills for those in the Norfolk area.

Additionally, the Northeast Nebraska Growing Together initiative has facilitated an internship program through Wayne State College to supply the Norfolk area business community with students committed to an accelerated learning program designed to provide academic training and business experience upon graduation.

Retention Strategy

To reduce outmigration and promote community integration we are working hard to create opportunities for people to make strong connections and impact their communities through our CONNECT YP group and through the Northeast Nebraska Growing Together initiative.
