Retail Impacts

The community of Norfolk serves as a major economic trade center for northeast and portions of central Nebraska. Our customized trade area is estimated to be nearly 70,000. Norfolk's estimated population is 26,059, which is up from 24,210 people in 2020. This population gain is due to both growth and annexation (completed in 2021) with growth accounting for more than half the total increase.

In Norfolk, we understand that retail builds on retail and that retail economic impact adds up quickly. Based upon our overall retail pull factor (1.86), Norfolk has a very strong retail sector relative to other incorporated communities throughout the state. Even so, Norfolk still has retail gaps that we would like to capture. We invite you to explore opportunities to invest in Norfolk and help us retain some of the retail leakage we are experiencing.

We also know that retail influences businesses that are looking to start, expand, or

re-locate their companies. Retail also enhances the quality of life of existing employees and the individuals we are working to attract to our region. Good quality of life encourages growth which is why amenity improvements are another component in our economic development strategy. Check out some of our most recent placemaking projects here.
